It's complicated.
I won't start chemo this week as I last reported.
Because everything I read online about methotrexate (MTX) led me to believe I would give myself the injections (yeah, I know... don't believe everything you read, particularly online), I assumed I would get the prescription today and give myself the 1st shot tomorrow.
Then this week happened, and well, I learned I was dead wrong.
When I spoke to my rheumy on Monday, he explained that it would be better for my injections to be supervised by my GP, if not by him. I had a qualified friend lined up to help me, too. (And dear friend, I know you're reading this. I totally trust you and may be calling on you soon.) He said he would call the clinic where my GP works and set up a way for me to go there for my weekly shots. His office is about an hour from my house, so he was trying to save me a big headache.
Well, the prescription for the MTX came in the mail today, so I called the clinic to find out what had been arranged.
Nothing.
GP won't touch this with a 10-foot pole.
I talked to one of the oncology nurses at the clinic, and she nearly scared me out of my mind! That was a complicated phone conversation that college biology and chemistry did not prepare me to understand fully.
On the plus side, I now know how to answer the "But, Mom, I want to be a lawyer. What do I need science for?" question. Ha!
I'll spare you the details, but they recommend I have home health care supervise this by sending a nurse to my house each week.
Sooooo... tomorrow I need to call my rheumy and get this worked out. I may end up having someone drive me to his office weekly until I learn how to do this shot thing myself. Or I may end up with weekly visits from home health care. Or I may end up calling on my friend who has offered to give the shot to me while teaching me how to do it myself.
All that is certain is that God knows the plan and he will work out all these details.
In the meantime, please pray that God will grant me much patience as the plan unfolds and will use this for my sanctification and his glory.
Resting in Him,
Dawn

Will be praying for a workable way for you to get your shots.
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating, but you're right, God will work out all the details. ((hugs))
