Next Week

I feel a bit like the boy who cried wolf.

Hey Everyone! Chemo starts next week!

Oh, ooops, make that next week.

No, wait.... n-e-x-t-w-e-e-k.

I hope that you are not feeling misled like the villagers in Aesop's fable and losing trust in me. The past three weeks have been far from enjoyable. Instead of sitting on a hillside laughing, I feel like I have done battle with a whole pack of wolves.

You know lupus is Latin for "wolf," don't you? There's something slightly funny or clever about what I just did there but I'm too tired and stressed to make it work. So... everyone just pretend I wrote something clever and give me a giggle or a high five or some form of affirmation here, okay? ;) ;)

Lord willing, this is the last "next week" you'll hear from me.

I was able to speak with my rheumy's nurse today, and everything is set up for me to get my 1st few shots under their supervision, starting (drum roll) NEXT WEEK. They will also teach me how to do this shot thing myself so that after 2-3 weeks we won't have to make the weekly drive to rheumy's office.

Michael will be taking me to my appointments on Thursdays. The office is almost an hour from my house, and I might be able to drive there, but... back home might not be so easy.

He will also take Fridays off from work for the first couple weeks to keep watch on me and to keep the boys on track with school. Having to take my shots on Thursdays is not ideal for either of our schedules or for homeschooling; however, I am thankful he has the accumulated personal days to allow him to be with me and that we have the freedom in homeschooling to do what works best for us in each season of life.

As the Lord leads, please pray for the following:
  1. That the injection will go well and I won't have a bad reaction to it like I did the oral meds
  2. That God will give me the strength to stick that needle in my skin... It's not a big needle, but I am extremely squeamish. :)
  3. My stress levels are way higher than normal because this process has been quite stressful and I haven't even gotten to the giving myself a weekly shot part! Oh, I would love to insert a big, long, detailed sob story here, but I'll resist and instead ask you to pray that "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard (my) heart and (my) mind in Christ Jesus." (Phil 4:7, ESV)
Thanks for running back up the hill. Thanks for praying.

  2. You're not crying wolf, you're dealing with the medical profession. ; ) We're going through a bit of that too, for a much less serious issue, but sometimes I just want to scream, "People, why are we making this easy thing so difficult?!" Perhaps I need to claim that verse myself and chill. : )

You are in my prayers, dear friend. So glad Michael will be able to take the time off to be with you!

    1. Thanks, Kellie. Yes, dealing with these issues is quite taxing. I will resist the urge to get political and comment on how much worse it will be once the government is more fully involved. ;-)

Thanks for your prayers. You are in my prayers often, too. :-)
